Whether you are into high-octane action flicks or feel-good rom-coms, this week’s new movie hits theaters have something for everyone. A bisexual bodybuilder falls for the manager of a gym in this A24 film. It stars Kristen Stewart and Jena Malone. The new film is based on the 2004 movie.

The Wizard Of Oz

One of the most enduring movies of all time, MGM’s proto-psychedelic epic is an endlessly entertaining confection. The 1939 movie about an injustice triggering a whirlwind and a house from Kansas flying off to crush a wicked witch in a far-off land still has the power to transport us to its fanciful world.

Judy Garland shines as Dorothy Gale, a Kansas farm girl who dreams of a land “somewhere over the rainbow.” When a tornado rips through her home and sweeps her away with her dog Toto, they are whisked to a brightly colored land called Oz. Dorothy follows the Yellow Brick Road to find a mysterious wizard who can return her home. Along the way, she befriends a scarecrow that needs a brain, a tin man that wants a heart and a cowardly lion that wants courage. The Wizard of Oz is full of pathos, humour and great characters including Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch, Frank Morgan as the Wizard and Jack Haley, Ray Bolger and Bert Lahr as the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and Cowardly Lion. It would take a curmudgeon to dislike this movie.

Soul

From a beloved family film to a high-octane action flick, this month’s หนังใหม่ชนโรง releases will keep you busy until the credits roll. For showtimes and more information, visit this page. Viola Davis stars as Nanisca, a Dahomey Amazon general who leads her army to defend their homeland and wreak revenge on those who wronged them in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s historical epic, which debuted Sept. 23.

Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya return to Arrakis in this science fiction movie from Bong Joon-ho, director of the 2019 Oscar-winning film “Parasite.” Emilia Clarke, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista and Javier Bardem also star. Xolo Mariduena, of the hit series Cobra Kai, stars as Jaime Reyes in DC’s first superhero movie led by a Latino character. A scarab binds to Reyes’ spine, giving him superpowers and a suit of blue alien armor. The film also features Raoul Max Trujillo, Bruna Marquezine and Belissa Escobedo.

She Said

Taking a cue from journalism movies like All the President’s Men and Spotlight, She Said follows New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor (played with unfussy fortitude by Carey Mulligan) and Megan Twohey as they investigate the sexual misconduct allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. Its lean narrative and careful pacing make for a riveting film about breaking the code of silence and uncovering the truth, even when it’s unpleasant.

The story may be familiar to many, but director Maria Schrader and her cast keep the melodrama at bay with the help of fine performances. Mulligan and Kazan shine, giving life to the women whose reporting shattered a decades-old culture of denial. She Said doesn’t pretend that wrongs have been righted, but it does prove that a David can bring down a Goliath with a million tiny cuts rather than one good punch. It also proves that good journalism isn’t always a glamorous affair, and it deserves the movie that it got.

The Creator

Gareth Edwards, the director behind 2014’s Godzilla and 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, reaches for new heights of science-fiction spectacle in this original (albeit derivative) vision of a future war between man and machine. This film features some pretty brutal violence. In addition to gun battles, there are scenes of people being stabbed, shot and killed by robots. While this isn’t a gratuitous, graphic depiction of mechanized killing, it can still be upsetting for some viewers.

John David Washington gives a strong performance and the film’s stunning production design is impressive. However, the pacing can get confusing and the plot is a little too familiar. Families should discuss whether the film’s depiction of machines that practice religion and even raise children is a realistic portrayal of modern life. They should also talk about the underlying themes of anti-imperialism and how technology is changing the world. Despite its similarities to other films, The Creator is an entertaining and thought-provoking sci-fi adventure that deserves a wide audience.
