Gen 5 Internal Parts
Glock applies advanced surface treatments to major metal components, producing an outer hardness comparable to, though slightly less than, that of diamonds. This dramatically reduces wear and tear while also making the gun corrosion resistant.
A glance at an exploded Gen 5 slide shows it has a larger operating rod/recoil spring mounting hole, or seat, than the earlier iterations of the same generation. It also has a different shape to the firing pin hole.
The big change comes with the polygonal rifling on the barrel. Glock claims this design creates a tighter seal with the bullet, and allows for higher velocities. Other changes include fully ambidextrous controls, and a flared magwell. These features make the Gen 5 much more adaptable to the needs of individual shooters.
